In partnership with
Lutheran Services Florida, all Fort Myers
Beach Fire Stations are all designated as
Safe Place locations in support of the
national youth outreach program Project Safe
Place.
Project Safe Place was
created to educate young people about the
dangers of running away or trying to resolve
threatening situations on their own. Over
15,000 Safe Place locations exist throughout
the United States and are designated by the
yellow and black Safe Place sign. The
program targets children ages 12-17 and
provides referral resources for children in
need outside the target age ranges.
If a young adult
requires assistance and is not near a friend
or family member who can help, they can go
to a designated Safe Place location. An
employee at the Safe Place location will
contact a Safe Place Coordinator who will
send a volunteer or staff person to
transport the youth to the local agency. The
local agency is equipped to provide
counseling, support, and resources to help
young adults and their families through
difficult situations.
